I really wanted itSep 02, 2010 We were advised to buy a little notebook to keep track of all of this, it was very easy but I didn't like it. So I bought one of these about 3 days after my son was born. The notebook did a much better job. We just kept it next to his changing pad with a clock and we right down the time in whatever column. This device seemed like it would be great but it just doesn't hold enough info, or have options. It's too simple. I wasted my money.
UnderwhelmedAug 27, 2010
Pros:
Easy to use
Really convenient for reminder alarms (like every 3 hrs for feeding)
Cons:
The backlight lights for only a few seconds, not long enough when you're fumbling around in the dark
Need to reset timers immediately to get accurate times, not always easy when both hands are occupied with a fussy baby
Night light is not large enough to be useful for changing diapers in the dark
I gave up using this device after a couple days. The doctors/nurses are much more concerned with how many times the newborn baby has fed and how many diapers in a day than with how long it's been since the last occurrence. I found myself having to write down all that information which defeated the purpose of using the timer. In the hospital, the nurses had me fill out a daily log sheet. At home, I've downloaded Baby ESP ($4) for my android smart phone. The software provides all the same features as the timer and lets me track feeding times, left and right sides, pee and poo diapers and medicine, either with real-time timers (like Itzbeen) or with manual entries after the fact.
AmazingAug 25, 2010 This product is hands down AMAZING. From day 1 in the hospital it's been a lifesaver. After the first feeding, everything blurs together. Our baby is now 2 weeks old and this thing comes with me everywhere. Yea, you could use a piece of paper....but that's a pain in the butt compared to this.
Itzbeen has now been added to my list of "must have baby gifts" for pregnant friends....it's up there with lanolin!
Useful for new sleep-deprived parents sharing dutyAug 21, 2010 Some of the reviews here made us nervous about buying the product, but overall, we've found it extremely useful for coordinating care for our newborn. We have not experienced the quality issues after using it for 5 weeks. I also keep a paper log of the items this product tracks, but since my husband can remember to push a button, but not to write a diaper change or nap in the log, this makes it much easier to coordinate care. It's especially helpful late at night, when I'm waking up after just a few hours of sleep, to determine if I need to nurse him. It includes a back lite as well as a small flashlight, which is great when you need it but don't want to wake everyone up with the overhead lights. One feature that would make this better is a counter, to track how many times a timer has been reset in a 24 hour period.
Useful as a timerAug 12, 2010 I bought this timer when I first started caring for my grandchild thinking it was hard to remember when she last ate and slept.
By the time I tried it I found I really didn't need it. I kept it as a timer for my other grandchildren to keep computer use limited and fair. I should have sent it back but I have used it so kept it.
