5LOVE the products; LOVE*ED* the companyAug 24, 2010
We've been very happy with this product & have actually sent it back to the company at least once because the cord-to-receiver socket was becoming weak & falling out; this was a very positive & painless experience with Summer Infant! Those problems would have been big problems had they gone unresolved but because they were resolved right away, I can say it was just a hiccup (2 wks w/o a monitor due to shipping turn-around time) in our ownership. HOWEVER, we've since misplaced the cord to our receiver & I would like to buy a replacement one. I thought this would be a simple request; after all, this is the company that could make families purchase a whole second set-up for a second child but instead offers the money saving option of only adding an additional camera! What brilliant customer service! Much to my dismay, I can't get Summer Infant to return my phone calls or emails. I'd be satisfied if they contacted me simply to say they can't sell replacement parts-I just want to hear from them! It's been about 2 months now of contacting them off & on...& no word from Summer Infant. I'm scanning craigslist because this is our last child & I don't want to buy a whole new product at full price just use it a few months. It's such a great product I thought we'd see 5yrs of use with it! Definitely buy (& register!) the product-just don't lose the pieces!

3Love watching my baby, but a few issuesAug 20, 2010
I ordered my Summer Infant Day & Night Color Video Monitor w/ 2.5 inch screen on May 19, 2010. At first, it worked beautifully! Do keep in mind that the "color" video only works when the room is well lit. For night viewing, the video is black and white. We had clear video and great audio. There were (and still are) definite interference issues, with static rippling across the screen and coming out over the speaker, but it usually just takes some repositioning to get it to stop. The interference rarely bothers us at night, thankfully.

One thing about the way the controls are set up: The brightness dial operates the way I expect it to, but the volume dial does not. To get the video brighter, I turn the dial up; to turn the brightness down, I turn the dial down. With the volume, however, to turn the volume up, I have to turn the dial down and vice versa. I still forget about that in the middle of the night if I have to adjust the volume, so I wish the volume dial operated the same way the brightness dial does.

Another thing I wish is that, when the monitor is running on battery power, the unit didn't go into battery-saving mode automatically. It only keeps the video turned on for about 3 minutes, then shuts the screen off to save the battery, so if you want continuous video (even at the expense of battery life) you have to keep hitting the video on/off button to turn it back on. I wish there were a switch by that button where we could select battery saver mode vs. continuous video.

In mid-July, I started having problems with the monitor. Every time I plugged it in, the video would get distorted, the vertical sync out of whack so we'd have such rapid horizontal scrolling that the image was unreadable. The longer the unit was plugged in, the longer it would take for the image to stabilize. It did this even when the battery was completely run down. I contacted Summer Infant on July 19, and they shipped me a replacement AC adapter the next day by UPS Ground. It arrived July 27 and sadly did nothing to fix the problem. I contacted them again, and they immediately offered to send me a full replacement monitor setup as soon as they received my current unit. They had UPS email me a prepaid shipping label the next day, and when they received my shipment they had UPS send me a shipping notice for my replacement unit. It arrived August 12. For the most part, this unit is working fine. Sometimes the video on/off button doesn't respond right away, but it does eventually, so for now I'm satisfied.

I do appreciate that Summer Infant's customer service shipped me the replacement unit for free and even sent me a prepaid shipping label so I could send my original unit back at no cost to me. I do wish, however, that they'd shipped my replacement package at the same time that they sent me the prepaid label (with the option of charging my credit card if I didn't send the original unit back within a certain time frame). I'm also not very happy that the one year warranty will expire based on my original purchase date, even though I no longer have that original unit, and wish the warranty could be extended by at least two months (since I called to report the issue 2 months after purchase date).

Overall, I do love the monitor because I LOVE being able to see what my little man is doing and how he's sleeping without physically going into his room. It's so reassuring. There are just a few quirks that I'm not crazy about.

4Not too shabbyAug 12, 2010
The devices themselves aren't too bad, the wireless could use some improvement. I had to switch channels because it interferes with my z-wave system. Luckily the channel b works. The wireless is sort of noisy, has lots of random pops and video glitches. The camera switches into night mode too early, only if its really really bright does it go back to color. Works great at night it looks real good in pitch black dark.

Overall not bad.

4We're HappyJul 15, 2010
We've had this monitor for nearly 7 months and we love it so far. We rarely get interference. All features work great and we find it to be very convenient. We love the fact that we can see our baby, without having to go in her room and risk disturbing her, to check if she's really in need of something or if she's just being noisy in her sleep. The microphone is so sensitive that we can hear her breathing.

Our only complaint is a design flaw - the green light on the front of the camera. It is VERY bright in the dark and shines right in the baby's face, as that is where the camera is pointed. When she wakes up all she can see is this bright green dot relentlessly glaring in her face. We really don't need that light to tell us the camera is on because we can check by turning on the monitor. But if it MUST be there, it could be positioned in the back of the camera and be a little less conspicuous.

4Video monitor is a must have and this one is awesomeJun 25, 2010
A number of people told me that having a video monitor was unnecessary and kinda made me feel silly for wanting one for my first baby, but I am SO glad we have it and that we picked this one. My baby has had some health issues, including acid reflux, and being able to see his behavior when sleeping has been very helpful in gauging how he's feeling and if his medications should be adjusted and whatnot. Even when he slept in his bassinet in our room, I used this monitor so I wouldn't have to get out of bed to check on him (I'm blind without my glasses.) I could just roll over and look at the monitor even though it was dark in our room. I also love being able to see how cute my baby is when he's sleeping. He sleeps on him tummy now with his butt in the air, and it's just so adorable. It's also very nice when we're watching TV, we can have the volume completely down and still be able to monitor him visually. I also use it when I shower so I can keep an eye on my baby and not worry that I can't hear him.
My only complaints are the somewhat poor range on the monitor. You can get static (both audible and visual) in certain parts of our 2,000 sq ft home. But, if I just turn it one way or the other, it usually goes away. Also, my baby sleeps with a fan in his room and I wish the microphone had a gate on it that would allow you determine how sensitive the microphone is. But it doesn't have one, so at night we have to hear the whir of the fan through the monitor. It doesn't sound horrible and I sleep with a fan too, so the sounds just blend together.
One thing to keep in mind is how easy it is to adjust the volume on this brand. I noticed that some of the other styles have menus you have to go into to adjust the volume and I think that would be very annoying.
This monitor is awesome and well worth the money.
